Eligibility to join the military depends on the individual's vision after being corrected by lenses. In most situations, the military requires your vision to be corrected to at least 20/40 in the better eye.

Recruits are not allowed to wear contacts during basic training due to hygiene concerns. Instead, their eyesight will be tested before arriving at basic training, and if it is determined that they need glasses, two pairs of military-issue glasses will be given to them during basic training. Once basic training is complete, recruits can wear their own contacts or glasses again.

Refraction of vision is one area that I really miss the point of moving from recruiting. I seem to remember anything above -6 in each point for DQ (truth waviers) but there are higher numbers that are "no-shit" DQs. I will have to find that information and get back to you.
If you have LASIK (not PRK or anything else) you have to wait 6 months before you can process. All other eye surgeries are DQ (NO Waivers).

I know this thread is quite old, but I thought I'd share this for others who will see this thread in the future.
So what I'm trying to say is NEVER GIVE UP, make sure you do everything you can to get that contract. If you don't and you leave MEP with something you don't want, you'll regret it every day of your life. Make sure you can't play the "what if I do this..." game. Make sure that every possible scenario that can give you the desired contract, you do.
My recruiter is playing the "No Op40 slots available for at least a year, but there is a bonus for 11b infantry now".
